What is the Glenbrook Payments Boot Camp?

An intensive, two day "deep dive" into the US payments systems - providing a unique cross-payments system view of this important industry. Throughout the two days, we focus on ensuring an understanding of how current trends and issues will affect the status quo and on how new and emerging players may compliment - or threaten - the industry incumbents.

The two days are divided into three sections:

  • Overview - payments systems designs, functions and uses; payment system volumes and the dramatic shifts in actual and projected payments usage; the payment system perspectives of key constituents: consumers, banks, merchants, billers, enterprises, networks and processors

  • Core Systems - how the basic payments systems in the US market work. Cards, checking, ACH, cash and wire transfer are covered "soup to nuts". You'll learn how the "wiring" actually works, who the players are, what drives the fundamental economic of the systems, who the regulators are and how the rules are set and changed.

  • Emerging Payments - how to understand the emerging players in payments: what's a new cake and what's just the "icing"! This section covers emerging and evolving payments markets and infrastructures, including eCommerce, chip and contactless cards, prepaid and gift cards, international remittances, mobile banking and mobile payments. Key players are covered for online ecommerce payments (including PayPal, Google, Amazon, Bill Me Later, Moneta, etc.), POS payments (including Tempo, Capital One's decoupled debit, etc.), online bill payment and mobile banking/payments.

Who Should Attend: Is the Payments Boot Camp Right for You?

Because the Payments Boot Camp is very comprehensive and fast-paced, it is useful both for experienced managers, who often want to be updated on what's happening in areas outside of their immediate domain, and for newcomers, who need a broad overview of the US payments systems to create a context for their work.

The Payments Boot Camp is ideal for:

  • Bank product managers, risk managers, or sales managers who need a broader perspective or are new to the business

  • Product and sales managers from payments processors and service providers who need to understand how developments in other payments systems impact their offerings, or who have responsibility for developing and selling products and services into the financial services industry

  • Technology and service executives who are building products that leverage payment systems

  • Investors, inventors and analysts who want to improve their knowledge base on existing and emerging payments systems

  • Management teams from payments start-up companies who want to gain insight into what has been successful - and what hasn't - as our industry has evolved

Our Payments Boot Camp is just the way you'd want it—very intense. You'll be taught by two Glenbrook Partners - seasoned veterans of the industry who have "been there, done that" in senior operating roles in the payments industry. Classes range in size from 30 to 45 and are structured to ensure there is plenty of time for interactive Q&A - both during the sessions and during breaks.

You'll leave with an understanding of the "big picture" of payments and new insights into the key drivers and most important trends affecting the industry. You'll also receive a binder with a copy of all of our boot camp presentations—a valuable reference resource.
